Trash!

It's been more than 2 weeks since kingston has used a Binky!  I'm so excited and proud of him. To be perfectly honest, I was a bit worried they were going to be around for awhile. When he was sick with an upper respiratory infection I felt he needed the comfort, when his teeth were coming in, I felt he needed the comfort, and if he was fussy and tired at night, well... hello binky!  But when he began to ask for it, in his sweet little voice "binky?" I knew we needed to wean!  An inner voice told me that if he could ask for the binky, it was no longer needed.  And so, once his uri cleared up, and his teeth calmed down.... we just made the binky disappear!  I actually found a bag of them (thanks grammie for putting them in one place) and threw them away!  Proud to say that at 18 months old we are binky free!

he has however found 2 holes on his face that he thinks are the greatest thing in the world. Toddlers and their exploring!

Spring is here!

Everyone was sick last week with the stomach bug!  It circulated thru the whole house, not leaving one person out!  Kingston & I were 100% by Wednesday... so we attended playgroup on Thursday, came home, had lunch and ventured back out to the park to meet our friends Lauren & Benny.  The boys don't seem to be all that interested in one another as they are in the rest of the world, but it was fun, none the less.  Lauren is infamous for packing snacks and Benny was kind enough to share goldfish.  The boys sat by the ducks, or swans, Lauren nor I could establish what they were, we'll call them ducks for the sake of simplicity!  I suppose I should refresh myself with wild animals, so that I can teach Kingston the proper names.

While we waited for daddy to get home; Lynzee, my 9 year old sister offered to pull Kingston in the winter sled in the front yard, at first I hesitated, then I gave in.  Afterall, what harm could be done? They had a blast.  He's been calling her "sissy" lately.  He knows her name and calls her that also, it's quite funny, he adores her, and she adores him!

For dinner I suggested Hank's, since it was opening day.  Hank's is a staple for good weather & yummy food.  Unfortunately, I could have never predicted what would happen.  EVERYONE in Northeastern Ct was also at Hanks, we ordered at 7pm and didn't get our food till nearly 8pm.  I felt so bad for Kingston, he ended up having a squeezable apple sauce & milk while we waited.  Then we got our food, which was delicious! Lynzee, my 9 year old sister and I had ice cream after dinner, Kingston was nearly falling asleep, however managed to get a lick or two from Lynzee's vanilla cone.  Ahh yes, Hanks is open, Spring is here!

Kingston has a few new words in addition to sissy, he's been saying "bus", "choo choo" when referring to the train, I've heard him drop "ugh oh" a few times also, and my favorite, "peek boo".

The Binkie Call

The king is still not feeling well.  Fever is still present (although it breaks at times), broke out with a body rash today, and just isn't himself.  My plan is to take him out and get some fresh air this weekend to rid him of whatever has taken over his little body.

He's been waking frequently after I put him to bed the past few nights.  It breaks my heart when I hear his cries, especially when he isn't feeling well.  Tonight, it wasn't 30 minutes after I put him to bed I heard the cry, I immediately when in to check on him, to find him standing in his crib doing a little stagger.  Then he began crying out "binkie, binkie".  He couldn't find his binkie... which I'm guessing is under the crib, with the other collection of "stinky binkies" as I like to call them.  They don't really stink, but well, stinky binkie was the nickname that I gave them to discourage use, it's working, can you tell?  He's just too cute.  Despite the recent illness, he's really beginning to use his words.  I'm not keeping score or anything, but it's been a new word a day for the past few days.

Fast forward

As Kingston's momma, I feel it is my duty in life to make sure he lives life to the fullest.  My time as a mommy is short, thus far, however I'm learning new things each and everyday.  Take for example, it doesn't take much to amuse my 15 month old son.  A cardboard box, pots & pans, plastic magnets, a wipes container - these are the things he'd prefer to play with, rather than fancy smancy toys.  He doesn't care if we stay in pj's all day, or all week.  It's unfortunate, but true, but he won't remember these years, - he won't remember his first trip to the aquarium at 2 months old, his first concert, the frequent day trips, or the numerous trips to the zoo his first years of life.

I've created this blog, to capture all the memories that otherwise would be faded away into a blur of his childhood. I've had great intentions with scrapbooks.. I have the books (empty), the photos, the cute lil stickers, etc, but, i'm a techno savy momma, that just can't get it together! Besides, you wouldn't be able to read my scrapbook ;)

I want to show Kingston the world, how beautiful it is... he has taught me to take baby steps - afterall, we are not going to conquer the world in just one or two years, it's going to take time.  I can only hope he appreciates and loves life as much as I have a love for life.  The thing I love to hear from people, especially strangers is "he's such a happy baby!" and it's so true. From just one month old, he's been lighting up the (my) world, one smile at a time!

On 2/25/2010 we went for his 15 month well visit.  We had a great visit with Dr. C. Kingston is right on target, 23.25lbs, 31 inches, and simply perfect all around.  Walking & running like a true toddler, bumps & bruises to show, babbling like a teenager on the phone, with new words everyday.  New words: I love you, fish, and baby. I'm also convinced he said monkey; however, can't get him to repeat it.  Other words consist of: Momma, Poppa, Daddie, Dadda, "D" - for grammie, Lynzee, it's been rumored that he has said "sissy", and he was calling my dad "bill" before he passed, and looking for him afterwards. He has a love for his stuffed animal "Roo" and his binkie, despite my efforts in elimination.  Total of 8 teeth, which he LOVES brushing with his tooth brush, and a new tooth coming in the top side - we've taken that into consideration, and have allowed him to keep the "bink" during naps and bedtime. Seems like a reasonable compromise. He sat on the potty last weekend naked, reading a book, drooled so much it made the potty sensor go off, which cheers for a good job! "you did it, good job going potty!" - mark and I giggled - clearly he put something in the potty, we never anticipated it to be drool.

He loves watching Sid the Science Kid on PBS along with curious george. In the car recent tunes have been Bare Naked Ladies - we recently picked up a used cd Picnic Time at Newbury Comics, so far a hit - Feist 1,2,3,4 song, and all time favorite Jack Johnson.

Lastly he does the CUTEST thing with his feet when we say "happy feet" - he dances, and the proud look on his face, it's just awesome! His smile has a way of making everything in life a whole lot better!
